The story

Trilokinath Temple stands in Purani Mandi, the old quarter of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, on the bank of the Beas by the old Victoria Bridge on the Mandi–Pathankot highway, roughly a kilometre from the main bus stand. It is dedicated to Shiva, whose three-faced image gives the shrine its name, Trilokinath, meaning Lord of the Three Worlds.

The temple is believed to have been commissioned by Sultan Devi, queen of Raja Ajber Sen, the ruler who founded the present town of Mandi and built his palace close by; it dates from about 1520. Counted among the oldest temples in the town, it has detailed carving on its walls and images of Narada, Sharda and many other deities. Traces of chaitya dormer designs in relief can still be made out on parts of the shikhara. Pilgrims and tourists come here, and several festivals are held through the year.
