The story

Shri Kamaksha Temple at Jaidevi is a historic Hindu temple set among mountains, dedicated to Kamaksha, 'the goddess who fulfils all desires', family goddess of Suket's royal house and presiding deity of the old Suket principality. Eastern India calls the goddess Kamakhya, the north Kamaksha and the south Kamakshi; her original Shakta pitha is in Assam. Tradition holds that the Suket rulers came from Bengal and brought her idol with them.

When King Shyam Sen moved his capital from Pangana, the goddess was brought from the old palace and this temple was built, and the place took its name from the cries of 'Jaidevi' that followed her consecration. Both the Kula and Kali forms of the goddess reside here. A Suket king built the temple, and the temple committee and local people have restored it several times. Kamaksha has first place in the Suket fair and its jatra procession; in earlier times the king brought her to his palace for the fair.
