Trichambaram Temple in Taliparamba, Kannur district, is dedicated to Krishna, shown in his raudra, or fierce, posture after killing Kamsa. It is one of the Abhimana Kshethrams, a list of holy Vaishnava shrines, and is mentioned in the Mushikavamsa, an 11th-century Sanskrit poem. The sanctum is decorated with 15th- and 16th-century carvings and murals.
Within the complex a Durga shrine stands in the middle of a tank and is one of the 108 Durgalayas of old Kerala; Shiva, Ganapathi, Sastha, Vishvaksena and the snake deities have shrines nearby, and there are three ponds. The TTK Devaswom manages the temple. Its two-week festival begins with a flag-hoisting on Kumbham 22, usually around 6 March, and ends on Meenam 6, around 20 March. For eleven days in between, the Thitambu Nritham, a dance in which the idols of Krishna and Balarama are carried, is held at Pookoth Nada, a kilometre from the temple.
