The story

The Arakkal Museum occupies the durbar hall of the Arakkalkettu, the palace of the Arakkal family, the only Muslim royal house in Kerala, which played a prominent part in the history of Malabar. It is in Ayikkara, two or three kilometres from Kannur town.

The Kerala government restored this part of the palace and opened it as a museum in July 2005, after a renovation that cost about 90 lakh rupees. The building still belongs to the Arakkal Royal Trust rather than the Archaeological Survey of India, and the trust charges a small entry fee.
