The story

The tomb of Ibrahim Lodi, the last sultan of the Lodi dynasty, lies in Panipat in Haryana, near the tehsil office and close to the dargah of Bu Ali Shah Qalandar, a Sufi saint. The tomb is often confused with the Shisha Gumbad in Delhi's Lodi Gardens. The tomb is a simple rectangular structure set on a high platform reached by a flight of steps.

Ibrahim came to the throne in 1517 on the death of his father Sikandar. Faced with revolts and an unhappy nobility, some of whom invited Babur to invade, he lost both the battle of Panipat and his life in 1526, opening the way for Mughal rule. In 1866 the British moved the tomb while building the Grand Trunk Road and restored it with an inscription recording his death in the battle.
