This mausoleum in the Ayodhya district, in the old Nawabi town, holds the grave of Bahu Begum, whose formal name is given as Rabia-ul-Daurani. She was married to Shuja-ud-Daula, Nawab of Awadh, and was remembered for her intelligence, her poise and her charitable works. The tomb is one of the main surviving monuments of the Awadh nawabs in the area.
The building follows the Mughal tradition while drawing on Persian and Indian elements. A large central dome is surrounded by minarets, and the walls carry calligraphy, geometric patterns and floral designs, with carved screens in the openings. Laid-out gardens surround the tomb and give it a calm setting that suits a slow walk around the monument.
