The story

Tipagad is a small fort in Korchi taluka, Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra, standing in dense teak forest far from any settlement. The nearest village is Sawargaon, 100 km from Desaiganj (Wadsa).

It was held by the Gond prince Puram Raja, who is said to have had a guard of 2,000 fighting men, 5 elephants and 25 horses, and who controlled the whole Vairagad Fort country. He beat off an attack by the King of Chhattisgarh, but later he and his queen drowned in the lake and the fort fell empty. Today it has bastions, an outer wall and an inner balekilla raised on a hilltop, and a large water tank about 150 metres wide, with an embankment and steps along its edge.
