Thirumeninathar Temple, also called the Boominathar or Tiruchuli temple, stands at Tiruchuli in Virudhunagar district on the Virudhunagar–Manamadurai road, 55 km from Madurai and about 15 km from Aruppukottai. Shiva is worshipped as Thirumeninathar in the form of a square lingam, with Parvati as Thunaimalaiyammai. A Paadal Petra Sthalam closely linked with Sundarar, it is counted the 12th Tevaram shrine of the Pandya country. Tiruchuli is also the birthplace of Ramana Maharshi.
The complex covers about 45,000 sq ft and is considered similar in design to the Meenakshi Amman and Rameswaram temples. A moat surrounds the sanctum, and the Kauvaikkadal tank, with a central mandapam, lies in line with it outside the entrance tower. The Sabha hall holds Nataraja with the sage Gowthama and Ahalya, and the ceiling of the hall before the east-facing Ambal shrine bears a Srichakra. The Ramanathapuram rulers traditionally maintained the temple.
