The story

Thinthirineesvarar Temple, also called the Easwaran Temple, is a Shiva temple in Tindivanam, on Easwaran Koil Street just past the flyover on the Chennai–Trichy road. It is a Vaippu Sthalam sung by Appar, and the town appears in its inscriptions as Thiruthindeechuram. The lingam is worshipped as Thinthirineesvarar, and the goddess as Maragathavalli or Marathambal.

Tradition says Valmiki, Vyasa and the sages Tindi, Mundi, Killi and Killali all worshipped here, and that Vyasa built the vimana. The temple faces east behind a gopuram. Beyond the entrance come the flagstaff, bali peetam and Nandi mandapa, then the main shrine, with the goddess in the outer prakaram. Its lower courses are granite and its upper parts brick. Shrines to the Navagrahas, Tirumular and a fine figure of Bhairava line the prakaram, and Vinayaka, Dakshinamurthy, Brahma, Vishnu and Durga sit in the wall niches. The Adhikara Nandhi festival is held here.
