About Suryalanka Beach

Suryalanka Beach, also known as Bapatla Beach, lies about 8 km from Bapatla town on the Bay of Bengal. It has a long stretch of golden sand backed by green hills and coconut groves, and its calm water makes swimming a common activity. The beach is known for its sunrise and sunset views and is used for walks, yoga and picnics.

The area has a long past. Bapatla was once a Buddhist centre with several monasteries. In the colonial period the British built a rest house close to the shore, which later became the Suryalanka Beach Resort. Today the Haritha Beach Resort and other hotels in Bapatla offer rooms, and stalls near the sand sell souvenirs and fresh seafood.
