01 — The story
The story
Stargate Observatory is an astronomy facility in Kausani, at roughly 1,800 metres. Kausani looks out on a stretch of the Himalayas about 300 km wide, including Trisul, Nanda Devi and Panchchuli, so the site combines mountain views with night-sky observation.
Its Himalayan Peak Watch programme pairs visitors with experienced astronomers who lead viewing of stars and distant galaxies. The observatory also runs workshops on stargazing and astrophotography and has a museum devoted to science and astronomy. A space-themed cafe and a souvenir shop with a similar theme are on the premises.
