St. Mary's Church at Vechoor stands on the eastern shore of Vembanad Lake. It was consecrated in 1463 and today comes under the Syro-Malabar Major Archeparchy of Ernakulam-Angamaly.
The church is a place of pilgrimage because of a painted image of St Mary kept here. It is believed to be a faithful copy of the portrait of Mary traditionally attributed to St Luke, and devotees hold that the image has the power to work miracles.
