St. Luke's Church stands in the grounds of the Chest Diseases Hospital in Dalgate, Srinagar, on the south-western side of Shankaracharya Hill. Kashmir's earliest Christian church, it belongs to the Church of North India. British engineers built the Gothic-style church in 1896; its foundation stone was laid on 12 September that year by the brothers Arthur and Ernest Neve, missionary doctors at the hospital. The state government took it over in the 1960s.
Worship stopped in 1986, when rising militancy led to the church being abandoned. Restoration under the Smart Cities Mission began in April 2020 and, after delays from the pandemic, was finished in stages: the ceiling was redone in traditional khatamband woodwork and the floor laid with Devar stone. On 23 December 2021 the church was reopened by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, when the first service since 1986 was held, and it was rededicated on 30 November 2025.
