Srinivasa Perumal Temple, also called Mayakoothar Perumal Temple, is at Perungulam on the southern bank of the Thamiraparani, along the Tiruchendur–Tirunelveli route and 5 km from Alvar Thirunagari. It is one of the Nava Tirupatis, nine Vishnu temples that are all Divya Desams, and it is the Shani sthalam of the group, linked to Saturn. Nammalvar praised it in his Tiruvaymoli. Vishnu is worshipped as Mayakoothar with Lakshmi as Kulandhaivalli Tayar.
The name Mayakoothar recalls a legend in which an asura carried off Kumudhavalli, wife of the devotee Vedasaran, and Vishnu defeated him by dancing on his head. The deity sits with Sridevi and Bhudevi in the sanctum; this is among the places where Vishnu has four consorts. A three-tiered gopuram opens into rectangular granite walls with two precincts, and worship follows the Tenkalai tradition. During the Garuda Sevai festival in Vaikasi, festival images from the nine temples are brought out on Garuda mounts, and Nammalvar's image is carried through the paddy fields to each of them.
