The story

Sitaleshwar Temple is a Shiva temple at Jhalrapatan and part of the Chandrabhaga group of temples, a protected monument of national importance. The shrine dates from the 7th century, with its pillared hall added in the 10th. When James Fergusson surveyed it in the late 19th century only the hall's columns were standing, yet he praised them as the most elegant columnar work in India and noted that worship still went on; Alexander Cunningham also recorded the ruins. The temple was later rebuilt from material found on the site.

Facing east, it has a mandapa, an antechamber and a square sanctum. The original shikhara has fallen, so the roof is now flat with a small dome. Relief figures of Hindu gods cover the outer walls, and the hall's pillars show female figures, the guardians of the directions and ascetics, with a Nandi facing a linga inside. The sanctum doorway has five bands of floral carving, Ganga and Yamuna at its base and Lakulisa over the lintel.
