The story

Sikharagiriswara Temple is in the village of Kudumiyanmalai, about 20 km from Pudukkottai. The complex includes a hall of a thousand pillars and carries many inscriptions of the Pallava king Mahendravarman, among them a treatise on music.

One of its mandapas is designed as a chariot drawn by elephants or horses, a form also found at the Sarangapani and Nageswaraswamy temples in Kumbakonam, the Amirthakadeswarar Temple at Mela Kadambur, the Vriddhagiriswarar Temple at Vriddhachalam and the Thyagaraja Temple at Tiruvarur.
