The Shahi Jamia Mosque stands in the heart of Adoni, close to the market in a busy part of the town. Its builder was Masud Khan, a governor under the Bijapur Sultan Sikandar Adil Shah, who retired to Adoni in 1683. He bought the land for ₹77,000 and spent 2,000,000 dinars on the work, carried out by Iranian engineers led by Malli Sandal. The mosque's area is said to match that of the Kaaba in Mecca.
People of every background and religion may enter and take photographs. On the front of the building are 15 black slabs with text in Arabic and Persian about the mosque, along with Quranic verses and Hadith, and chains on the left and right minarets are a further decorative touch. Shops under the mosque committee surround it, with Flower Bazar to the right and Shroff Bazar to the left, and the committee also runs Masoodia Arabic High School, named after Masud Khan.
