01 — The story

The story

Shaheed Dweep, formerly Neil Island, is a small island in the Andamans with white-sand beaches, a forested interior and coral reefs close to shore that are used for snorkelling and scuba diving. Bharatpur and Sitapur beaches are the places for swimming and sunsets, while Lakshmanpur Beach has a natural rock arch known locally as the Howrah Bridge.

Life moves slowly in the island's small villages, where houses are simple, with thatched roofs and wooden walls, and customs mix mainland influences with indigenous traditions. Trails through the inland forest pass a wide range of plants and birds.
