The story

Satchinathar Temple stands at Avalivanallur in Tiruvarur district. Shiva is worshipped here as Satchinathar, and Parvati as Soundaranayaki.

It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, the shrines praised in the Tevaram, with hymns by both Tirugnanasambandar and Sundarar. It is also counted among the Pancha Aranya Sthalams, five temples in the Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Tiruvarur region each associated with a particular forest; Avalivanallur's is the paadhiri forest. The other four are at Tirukkarugavur, Aridwaramangalam, Alangudi and Thirukollam Pudhur.
