The story

Sarguna Lingeswarar Temple, or Karukudi Nathar Temple, is a Shiva temple at Marudhanallur in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, 5 km from Kumbakonam on the Mannargudi road. The saint Sambandar praised it in the Thevaram, and Enanallur, the neighbouring village, is where Enadi Nayanar, one of the 63 Nayanmars, was born.

The main idol, a shivalinga called Prithvi Linga, is made of sand, and there is a second linga known as Hanumantha Linga. Other shrines honour Ganesha, Murugan, Dakshinamurti and the Navagrahas. A trader named Dhananjayan is said to have been cured of leprosy here, and people with the disease come to the temple.
