The story

Santa Cruz Basilica in Fort Kochi is the cathedral church of the Cochin diocese, which is the second oldest in India, and one of eight basilicas in the country. It stands near St. Francis Church. The first church on the site was built by the Portuguese in 1505; after the Dutch destroyed it, Bishop Dom Francisco Ros put up a new structure in 1558.

The building combines Portuguese, Dutch and Indo-European features, with a white facade and twin spires. Inside are stained-glass windows, frescoes and seven large canvases, among them a copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper, while the ceiling shows the Stations of the Cross.
