The story

Pranpur, a village about 3 to 4 km from Chanderi, holds the title of the country's first Craft Handloom Tourism Village. Weaving has been its mainstay for centuries, and many residents work on the fine Chanderi sarees. The village sits on upland southwest of the Betwa River among hills, lakes and forest, on old trade routes between Malwa and Bundelkhand, a region shaped by Bundela Rajput and Malwa Sultanate rule.

Visitors can watch handloom weaving, follow the making of cloth from raw material to finished fabric, and meet dyers, potters and metalworkers. Weekly markets add to the craft experience. Jain, Hindu and Islamic traditions all feed into local culture, and Bundeli food and festivals are part of village life. Short walks lead out to the nearby water bodies and forest.
