The story

Polur Subramanya Swamy Temple is counted among the oldest temples around Kozhikode, the former capital of the Zamorins. It stands at Polur in Kuruvattoor panchayat, about 12 km from the city and 3 km from Parambil Bazar and Muzhikkal. The area takes its name from Sree Porlathiri, the king who once held sway here.

The presiding deity, Polurappan or Sree Subramanya Swamy, faces west as at Palani, and his image sits as if meditating or writing. Ganapathi, Vettakkorumakan, Ayyappan and Devi are also worshipped. The main festival is Thaipooyam in Makaram, celebrated as Subramanya's birthday. A sarpa kavu, or serpent grove, lies just outside the temple, and a serpent puja is held there once a year.
