01 — The story

The story

Phalut, also spelt Falut, is a 3,600-metre peak on the Singalila Ridge of the Himalayas and the second highest point in West Bengal. It stands where West Bengal, Sikkim and Nepal meet, inside Singalila National Park, and Singalila Pass lies about 17 kilometres away.

Near the summit stands a small bunkhouse, administered by the Indian Army, which gives basic shelter at this height. The communities living around the peak, called Falutians by outsiders, have worshipped the mountain for some 300 years, regarding it as an all-knowing god, and know it as Omna Re Ay.
