The story

The Pazhavangadi Maha Ganapathy Temple is at East Fort in the centre of Thiruvananthapuram, close to the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple and about half a kilometre from the central railway station and bus station. The seated Ganesha has his right leg folded, and the temple's sculptures show 32 forms of the god. Dharmasasta, Durga and Nagaraja are also worshipped.

The idol was first kept by the Nair Brigade at Padmanabhapuram, and when the brigade moved to Thiruvananthapuram its men installed it here. Since the Travancore forces merged into the Indian Army, the army has maintained the temple. Breaking coconuts is the main offering, along with Ganapathy Homam, appam and modakam. Vinayaka Chathurthi and Sankashti Chathurthi are major festivals. Men enter the inner complex in a mundu without upper garments, and women in traditional dress such as a sari.
