Oyster Rock Lighthouse

Oyster Rock Lighthouse stands on Oyster Rock, one of the islands near Karwar in Karnataka. Visitors reach the island by motor boats that run from Karwar Port.

The British built the lighthouse in the 1860s, and its light came into service on 25 March 1864. The tower is topped by a dome, from which the entrance to the lantern room is visible. The lantern was painted white instead of orange or red so that sunrise and sunset would show more clearly.
