The story

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church serves B. Pallipatti village, close to Bommidi in Dharmapuri district, and is one of the oldest parishes in the diocese. Records suggest Catholics lived here before 1750. It became a parish in 1930 under Fr. Charles Devin, who built a church around 1938 and whose grave lies to the right of it; the present church was dedicated on 16 December 2001.

The parish is famous for Maasattra Ratham, an open-air drama on the life of Jesus, performed on the second Friday after Easter near Mallikarjuna mountain since 1970. A grotto with a four-foot statue of Mary was set up on the west side of the mountain in 1958. Crucifixion statues on the mountain are used for the way of the cross during Lent, and a Rosary staircase was also built.
