The story

The Navdurga Temple stands in the Dasol ward of Kundaim, Goa, at the foot of a hill. It exists because of a split: when disputes divided the village administration shared by Madkai and Kundaim into two bodies, the people of Kundaim commissioned a replica of the goddess and installed it here. She is revered as their village deity, with their original deities treated as her attendants.

Shrines to Mahadev, Ganapati, Adinayan and Grampurush surround the main temple, and Kundaim has further temples to Mallikarjun, Shree Narayan, Shivipurush and Betal. A major restoration took place around 1910, and a new idol was consecrated in 1913, an event still marked each year on Vaishakh Shukla 10. A palanquin festival is held every night. The annual Jatra now falls from Margashirsha Shukla Navami to Chaturdashi, and the prasad here is unusual: cooked raw rice mixed with lime.
