The story

Narendra Sarovar, also called Narendra Pokhari, is a large sacred tank to the north-east of the Jagannath Temple in Puri and one of the biggest bodies of water in the town. It dates from the 15th century and is named after King Narendra Deva, in whose reign it was made.

The tank is closely tied to the rituals of the Jagannath Temple. During the Chandan Yatra festival, the temple's deities are brought out and rowed across its water in decorated boats. Small temples line its edges, and stepped ghats lead down to the water, where devotees and visitors gather.
