The story

Murali Mohan Temple in Bishnupur, West Bengal, was built for the worship of Krishna as Murali Mohan. According to its inscribed plaque it was founded in 1665 by Churamoni, also known as Siromoni or Siramani Devi, the wife of Mallabhum's king Bir Singha.

The south-facing temple follows the eka-ratna style, with a single tower above the sanctum, but it differs from others in the group: in place of the usual three arched openings, it has a covered ambulatory carried on a row of pillars. It stands about 12.2 metres high, and a dhvaja, or emblem, above the chuda marks the deity within. The temple is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
