The story

Mayodia Pass crosses the mountains of the Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh, 56 kilometres from the nearest town, Roing. Its name joins two Idu-Mishmi words: Mayu, the name of the mountain, and dia, its peak. Visitors come for the snow that falls from November to March, heaviest in January and February, and October to January is the main tourist season.

Summers are mild, at about 15 to 30 °C, while the monsoon from July makes the road unpredictable. Roing is reached by road from the cities of Assam, by hired car or state bus, or by bus from Tinsukia Junction, the nearest railway station. The drive up from Roing takes about three hours and should be made in daylight. Tezu airport is about 105 kilometres away and Dibrugarh about 190.
