The story

Trilokpur, on a hillock at roughly 430 m some 24 km south-west of Nahan, is a temple site in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district. Its name refers to a triangle of three Shakti temples, each showing a different face of Durga. The main one is the temple of Mahamaya Bala Sundari, the goddess in her childhood form; Lalita Devi's temple is 3 km away and the third lies 13 km to the north-west.

Legend says that in 1570 a pindi, a sacred stone, appeared in a bag of salt bought by a trader, Ram Dass, and the bag never emptied however much he sold. The goddess then came to him in a dream and asked for a temple. The ruler of Sirmour paid for it, artisans came from Jaipur, and the marble temple was dedicated in 1573; it was renovated in 1823 and 1851. Ram Dass's descendants still lead the worship. Fairs in Chaitra and Ashvin draw large crowds, and a Dhyanu Bhagat temple and a Shiva temple stand nearby.
