The story

Lohgarh in Bilaspur tehsil of Haryana was the seat of the first Sikh state, ruled by Banda Singh Bahadur, from 1710 to 1716. Historians record that in February 1710 he took over Mukhlispur, an imperial hill fort in the lower Sivaliks between Sadhaura and Nahan, renamed it Lohgarh and made it his headquarters. He repaired its defences, kept his treasure there and issued coins bearing the names of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh.

According to the historian Ganda Singh, the fort had been built by Mukhlis Khan on the orders of Shah Jahan. Present-day Lohgarh holds the Lohgarh Sahib Gurdwara, Lohgarh Fort and a statue of Banda Singh Bahadur, and the Haryana government is developing it for visitors, particularly Sikh pilgrims.
