01 — The story

The story

The Masani Amman Temple in the Coimbatore region is dedicated to the goddess Masani Amman, to whom devotees pray for protection, prosperity and good health. Pilgrims come from distant places, and the temple sits among green surroundings. A tall gopuram covered in brightly coloured carved figures marks the entrance.

The temple's past is tied to the old Kongunadu region and to legend. Tradition holds that early settlers founded it to worship Masani Amman as their guardian, believing she kept evil spirits away and brought peace and good fortune. It has been renovated and enlarged several times, with devotees helping to pay for its upkeep.
