The story

Also called Martar Thlanmual, the Martyrs Memorial occupies Luangmual Hill on the western side of Aizawl. It honours the Mizo fighters who lost their lives in the struggle led by Laldenga's Mizo National Front between 1966 and 1986, which ended with the Mizoram Peace Accord in 1986. Three tall spires stand for the central, northern and southern regions of Mizoram, and a plaque in the Mizo language pays tribute to the dead.

The complex covers 2,660 square metres and holds about 1,563 graves, though the exact figure is uncertain. It is also used for official observances, including floral tributes on Vijay Diwas, which marks India's 1971 victory over Pakistan, and an annual police day of homage when the Director General of Police leads a parade and wreath-laying.
