The story

The Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum lies within the Lakshmi Vilas Palace estate in Vadodara and holds art gathered by the Baroda royal family. Its best-known holdings are paintings by Raja Ravi Varma, commissioned by the Maharaja of Baroda, including scenes from Hindu mythology and portraits of the royal family, alongside works by other Indian and European artists.

The museum also shows marble and bronze sculpture, both originals and bronze copies of famous works ordered by the Maharaja. Some pieces are by the Italian sculptor Fellicci, whose work also decorates the palace. An oriental gallery displays sculptures and objects from China and Japan.
