The story

Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary covers around 35 sq km at Ravangla in Namchi district, Sikkim. Its name, maenam-la, means 'treasure-house of medicines', and its plant life includes many species of medicinal value. Established in 1987, it lies 34 km from Namchi, the district headquarters, and 65 km south-west of Gangtok, and is popular with visitors.

The state government has proposed India's first wildlife skywalk here: a 22 km ropeway would run from the sanctuary to a skywalk built over the edge of the steep Bhalleydhunga face, with a rain shelter and public facilities. The environment ministry has approved the plan, costed at 5 billion rupees.
