01 — The story

The story

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary covers more than 610 sq km of the Aravalli Range around Kumbhalgarh Fort, about 65 km by road from Udaipur. Its terrain of dense forest, hills, streams and valleys gives shelter to several threatened species and plays an important part in their protection.

Mammals include Indian wolves, sloth bears, leopards, hyenas, jackals and jungle cats, along with chital, sambar and the four-horned antelope. More than 250 species of birds have been recorded, which makes the reserve a good birdwatching area. Safaris with guides take visitors over the rough tracks, past small waterfalls and valleys that fill with wildflowers in season.
