Kharligarh is a ruined settlement with defences in Balangir district, Odisha, 1.5 km east of Bhuampada and near the point where the Rahul meets the Tel. Its antiquity has been recognised since the 1930s, and it is considered central to the early history of western Odisha, and it ranks among the largest early historic sites recorded in the state.
The site measures 600 by 300 metres and lies in a meander of the Rahul, which gives it natural protection. Its open western end is closed by a wall 10 metres high and some 50 metres wide, and this western fortification and its ruined tower stand out most. Trenches dug by Sambalpur University in 2002 produced several kinds of pottery, including Black and Red Ware and Red Slip Ware, pointing to possible settlement from the 3rd–2nd centuries BCE until the early medieval period.
