Ketakeshwar Dewal is a Shiva shrine in the Ketakibari area of Tezpur, Assam, reputed to hold one of the world's largest Shivalingas. The site has two parts a few metres apart: the place where the linga now stands, and the spot with its original base. Legend says a severe earthquake long ago wrenched the linga from its base and left it where it is today.
The shrine once lay among bamboo groves, reached only on foot by a narrow path. A full shelter has since been built over it, protecting the sacred area from the weather and giving devotees room to gather and pray. It is open to visitors, and a local committee looks after development of the surrounding area.
