The story

Keetham Lake, or Sur Sarovar, lies off the Agra–Delhi highway some 20 km out of Agra, 12 km from Sikandra, within the Sur Sarovar Bird Sanctuary, declared in 1991. Since 2020 it has been a protected Ramsar site. The lake is pentagonal and is fed by water from the Agra Canal, and Keetham railway station is close by.

The forest department has built man-made islands and shallow margins as resting and breeding places for birds, and more than 106 species of resident and migratory birds have been recorded here, with the richest variety in winter. In summer water hyacinth and pondweed spread over the surface. Next to the lake is the Agra Bear Rescue Facility, which cares for sloth bears rescued from the old trade of 'dancing bears'.
