The story

Kanpur Memorial Church, also called All Souls' Cathedral, was built in Kanpur to commemorate British soldiers who died during the uprising of 1857. Designed by the architect Walter Granville, it is a large red building in the Lombardy Gothic style, and a cemetery holding graves from the siege of Cawnpore lies beside it.

Inside, stained glass windows colour the light that falls across the interior. The best-known work of art at the site is the Angel of Resurrection by Baron Carlo Marochetti, a sculptor favoured by Queen Victoria; the figure holds palm branches, with eyes closed and arms crossed. At the east corner is a memorial garden enclosed by a carved Gothic screen.
