01 — The story

The story

Kailasakona Waterfall is in the green hills of Narayanavanam mandal in Tirupati district. A winding path leads through the forest to the fall, where water drops roughly 40 feet, and it flows through the whole year. A temple to Shiva and Parvathi stands beside the main fall.

Local tradition holds that the sage Agastya meditated at this spot, and many devotees believe a bath in its water washes away sins. The forest around it holds medicinal herbs and rare orchids, along with birds, butterflies and, now and then, wild animals.
