Julley Leh Biodiversity Park, in the centre of Leh, is named after the Ladakhi greeting 'Julley'. Laid out along walking trails, it presents the native plants and animals of Ladakh's cold desert, from low dwarf shrubs to the snow leopard of the high mountains. Guided tours and displays explain how these species cope with the harsh climate and what is being done to protect them.
The park also covers the region's culture. Traditional Ladakhi houses with wood carving and painted murals stand on the grounds, and local craftspeople demonstrate textile weaving and the painting of Buddhist thangkas.
