The story

Jnanakshi Rajarajeshwari Temple in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru, was built in 1978 for the goddess Rajarajeshwari, a form of Tripura Sundari. The neighbourhood grew out of Kenchenahalli, where Sivaratnapuri Swamiji set up the Sri Kailash Ashrama Mahasamsthana.

Devotees believe the site is the 'ear' (karnabhaga) among the Shakti peethas named in the Tantra Chudamani, and that it was once the home of the sage Atri and his wife Anusuya, who are said to have gained siddhi by worshipping Rajarajeshwari. The area lies between the Kaveri and Vrishabhavati rivers, and the presiding Bhairava here is Abiru Bhairava. In 2024 the composer Mahesh Mahadev dedicated a new raga, 'Sri Jnanakshija', to the goddess.
