The story

Jeypore Palace in Koraput was founded by King Veer Vikrama Dev and was the seat of the old Jeypore kingdom. Built of red laterite, it combines Rajasthani, Mughal and Odishan styles, with carvings and paintings on its walls and large courtyards within.

The palace is closed to visitors and can only be viewed from outside; its main gate was renovated in 2013. Among its treasures is a royal seat made of pure gold, said to have been a gift from the Mughal emperor Akbar to the kings of Jeypore.
