Janapav, also called Janapav Kuti, is a hill in Indore district about 45 km from the city, held to be the birthplace of Parshuram, the sixth avatar of Vishnu. The Shri Parshuram Temple at the top houses an image of the deity and draws devotees, and many visitors trek up the forested slopes, which are rich in medicinal plants.
The hill also has the Jamadagni Ashram, dedicated to Parshuram's father, and beside it a kund said to be the source of 12 rivers, the Chambal among them. Yoga and meditation are practised here. Shitla Mata Waterfall, Patalpani Waterfall and Choral Dam all lie within about 30 km, and the nearest railway station is at Mhow, around 20 km away.
