Ibrahim Rauza in Vijayapura is the burial complex of the Adil Shahi ruler Ibrahim Adil Shah II and his queen. Its refinement has earned it the nickname 'Taj Mahal of the Deccan', and its decoration combines Hindu and Islamic artistic traditions, worked in limestone and dark basalt.
The complex sits on a raised stone terrace. The tomb occupies the eastern side and a mosque faces it from the west, with a platform between them set with fountains and ornamental pools. Domes crown both buildings, while the facades carry carved medallions and delicate chains carved from stone that seem to hang without support. The balance of proportions across the whole group is its most admired quality.
