Holy Spirit Church at Nandakhal in Vasai, Maharashtra, was founded in 1573 by Franciscan missionaries, when new converts in the area needed a place closer than the church at Nirmal. It is the only church in the Vasai diocese dedicated to the Holy Spirit.
Most of the churches of Vasai collapsed in the Maratha attacks of 1737-39, but this one was spared, which makes it the oldest in North Vasai and leaves it standing in its original form. Repairs and additions came in the early 20th century, including wood from the Shirsat forest for a weak roof in 1907, a large bell in 1908 and an upper floor on metal pillars in 1910. Monsignor Vaz later painted the main altar and two side altars in gold and added colourful paintings, among them a Pentecost, which remain in the same state. A statue of Christ the King stands by the lake.
