The Gompa Temple sits among the green hills of Itanagar and was consecrated by the Dalai Lama. It serves as the city's centre for Buddhist studies. Steps lead up to a colourful gate, and the yellow roof can be seen from a distance; a white stupa with golden carving stands outside.
The temple itself is fairly small. Inside are a statue of the Buddha, paintings of Buddhist legends and a collection of scriptures and sculptures. Shops around the grounds sell prayer flags, prayer wheels and scriptures, and markets in the city nearby offer shawls and crafts in bamboo, cane and wood.
